The sentiment and spirit of SHARING and GIVING is the essence of Maria João Pires' project called 'PARTITURA'.
"The concept is very simple: it’s about sharing. Music is something that cannot exist without sharing, and in our difficult times you need projects that everyone can share – different generations can share different kinds of music with people that have no access to concert halls.
The Partitura project should not stay only on stage, it should be in social projects, it should be in prisons and hospitals and places where children have problems. We want to take music to people who never go to concerts. We have to learn what is the best way to transmit not only an idea but to transmit the source of music in a very pure way, instead of thinking how much money we can raise. Of course this is also important, but it should come in second place."
And this is how 'PARTITURA' project came to Greece and became 'Partitura Heart-to-Heart' project (in January 2023 to be exact) - not only a music but also a social project. Spreading light one note at a time .........
There are places, less renown but closer to 'ordinary' people. There are municipality halls, small private halls, school halls, community spaces .... With little effort they can be transformed into excellent spaces for music recitals where people from all walks of life can come to listen and enjoy classical music free of charge, or for a small fee.
There is one in my area that I named 'Maria João Pires' hall, a small private place with a maximum of 50 seats. But, it is a place that welcomes everyone (and it is always full to the very last seat available). One enthusiastic pianist, one YAMAHA GS piano, 50 foldable wooden chairs - and the setting was complete and the project ready to commence ! Entrance is by donation - pay what you can - all in a continuous effort to bring music and art closer to people from all walks of life, especially underprivileged ones and people with different means.
And this is just the beginning of the 'Partitura Heart-to-Heart' project in Greece ...... I have many ideas and many plans for the future; to take the project to different places - hospitals, prisons, schools, juvenile correctional facilities, orphanages ....... to play alone or with other musicians willing to join and support the project ......
