Nada Yoga - Sound Therapy & Chromotherapy - Colour Therapy: Short Intro

SOUND THERAPY - Nada Yoga utilises sound vibrations as a powerful tool for self-discovery, self-healing and self-improvement. Its aim is to purify, balance, stimulate, and finally 'unlock' and awaken all 7 chakras (the main energy centres of the human body).

Each CHAKRA corresponds to one SVARA (Sanskrit singular = svaraḥ) = SOUND of the 7 tone musical scale. In my Nada Yoga sessions I use Bhairavi scale (the 'Queen of Raagas' in Indian classical music) which has the same notes as Phrygian mode (Western music) - F, Gb, Ab, Bb, C, Db, Eb - played on an Indian harmonium in various ways, and my voice, all combined with special breathing techniques to guide participants though the practice. The practice is simple and yet extremely effective.

It is one of the reasons why svaras are considered a symbolic expression for the number seven that represents the right blend of spiritual and material - a perfect balance.

7 chakras - 7 svaras - 7 effects <-----> BODY - MIND/EMOTIONS - SPIRIT

Svaras (Sanskrit plural - svarāḥ) work with and affect chakras which are responsible for and affects physical, mental, emotional and spiritual body equally, and therefore affect the whole individual on all levels.

In my Nada Yoga sessions we dive deep into the magical world of sound frequencies and their effects, and explore them together. The practice helps participants to 'open up' and become conscious of that 'other' reality which leads to discoveries sometimes far beyond their wildest imaginations - about themselves and the world around them, which in turn results in empowering them to fully develop their (artistic and other) potentials, and express themselves fully and authentically, in art and life.

Chakras are primarily associated with the subtle-body of a person and provide subtle-energy to the functions of the body organs, mind, emotions and intellect:

  1. Muladhara Chakra – Root Chakra – SA

  2. Svadhishthana Chakra – Sacral Chakra – RE

  3. Manipura Chakra – Solar Plexus Chakra – GA

  4. Anahata Chakra – Heart Chakra – MA

  5. Vishuddhi Chakra – Throat Chakra – PA

  6. Ajna Chakra – Third Eye Chakra – DHA

  7. Sahasrara Chakra – Crown Chakra NI

The illustration at the bottom of the page is showing approximate locations of the chakras on the human (energetic) body and corresponding svaras (left and right).

COLOUR THERAPY - Chromotherapy

Did you know that one of the lesser-known ways to invoke emotions is through colour ?

Colours provide a direct link to our emotions, and our feelings about colours reflect how we feel about ourselves.

Colouring activity brings out imagination, heightens our senses and creativity, and as we become engaged in the pleasurable, soothing activity of colouring, it calms us and instantaneously starts reducing our stress level.

As a part of  the ‘Alternative Approach to Music’ workshops - guided colouring activity can among other things improve:

  • Creativity

  • Reaction time

  • Fine motor skills

  • Attention to detail

  • Self confidence

  • General mood

  • Imagination

  • Coping with stress
