'SCHUBERTIADES' 2023 with Maria João Pires

Updated: Mar 19

In early 19th century Vienna, the “Schubertiades”, salon sessions where the composer Franz Schubert was a central figure and where the composer himself and other artists, as well as patrons and friends, performed and celebrated the Austrian composer’s compositions, became famous. These informal events included not only music, but also the recitation of poetry or songs and dances accompanied by the piano. They were intimate moments of sharing, in which art (and music in particular) occupied a central place.

This is the spirit that the pianist Maria João Pires will recreate in nine concerts - in July and September 2023 - where she will share the stage with other musicians and friends. A major series of events not only centred around Schubert’s music, but also based on celebrating music and art in general.

Maria João Pires' “Schubertiades” work hand-in-hand with her Partitura project, which is aiming to allow collaboration between different generations, and an open dialogue between different genres of art and science, and to dive into a deeper layers of human beings, and thus understand better their relation to themselves and their surroundings.

2023 “Schubertiades” led by Maria João Pires will be a joyous gathering of seasoned and young(er) musicians working together and sharing the stage, which I am wholeheartedly looking forward to ... to every happy and heavenly pure Schubertian note ...
